Our name, Kontexture, is the marriage between context and architecture. Our mission is to respond to the site with architecture and practice critical regionalism.
We want to create a human experience that is deep and insightful, yet approachable. Those are the key components that Kontexture utilizes to create beautiful and useful spaces.
Our vision of urban planning is to provide dynamic communities that integrate well within the urban fabric, creating a sense of belonging and inclusion to all living standard levels.
Kontexture was founded in 2013 by Daniel Istrate and Jorge Toscano, both graduates of the University of Arizona Architecture program. Kontexture is derived from the marriage of context and architecture which is what drives the design philosophy of the studio. In its inception, the firm focused primarily on residential architecture, but as the firm grew, it diversified its body of work to include multi-family residential, restaurants and coffee shops, as well as manufacturing and senior care facilities. Large or small, the design philosophy is carried through each project. The firm's exclusive use of BIM helps with early visualization, better consultant coordination, more timely delivery of projects, and more consistent work from project to project.
The birth of our Hermosillo office came from our desire to tap into new, emerging markets. With it being a university hub, the pool of new talent, opportunities and working force made Hermosillo the perfect choice for us to tap into a young, growing market and create new opportunities for us and for the new graduates of the architecture programs there.
